The Indian batsmen performed poorly on reserve day as they could only add 106 points for the loss of 8 wickets. New Zealand had set a goal of 139 runs to win the first-ever trial championship after beating India by just 170. Due to bad weather, the match entered the reserve day.

Southee, Jamieson was obviously aided by a few ordinary shots from the Indian middle and lower order, but once they knocked them out for 170 there was still going to be some play. Ashwin pulled out the New Zealand openers but Williamson and Taylor, how many times have they done it for New Zealand? Simply superb Kiwis. The good guys can emerge on the winning side, they sure can.
