WhatsApp Web has begun to receive updates that allow users to post pictures and videos that can be viewed only once, according to the report.
A new feature, called ‘watch once, was first spotted on the latest WhatsApp release for Android beta. The feature has not been released to all users on mobile phones yet, but it is now apparently being tested on WhatsApp Web.
In November, the Facebook-powered platform introduced a disappearing messaging feature that allows users to engage in non-permanent conversations and disappear after seven days.
Unlike other popular apps, WhatsApp does not allow users to set how long messages will be available, so messages remain available for one week.
WABetaInfo reported the release of WhatsApp Web version 2.2126.11 which allows users to create photos and videos that disappear from the conversation once viewed.
Users are said to see a ‘view once’ button while sharing media content with a Web client – when the feature is already available for their WhatsApp account.
Last month, WhatsApp appeared to test the ‘view once’ feature of WhatsApp for Android users. WABetaInfo at the time reported that it was released for beta testers via WhatsApp for Android version 220.127.116.11.
WhatsApp will make it easier for users to share sensitive photos and videos using its platform temporarily by providing a new disappearance feature.
However, recipients will still have the option to store media content on their devices by taking screenshots.
The updated version of WhatsApp Web is also said to have a new archive feature where the instant messaging app will no longer notify users of archived messages.
WhatsApp may not make its new features available to all users initially.
WABetaInfo, however, said WhatsApp has been expanding this access to more people. 360 gadgets could not detect the WhatsApp Web update at the time of installing this story.
In addition to the two new features of WhatsApp Web users, WhatsApp manager Will Cathcart and Facebook Manager Mark Zuckerberg last month revealed that the app works with Disappeal Mode to allow you to disappear shared messages in conversations with groups.
Both managers also confirmed the release of the ‘watch once’ feature and suggested checking support for multiple devices in the coming days.
