WhatsApp is updating the Payments feature, a recent attempt to defraud users in India

WhatsApp has announced updates to its chat developer which will cater to its users in India. The changes are designed to make WhatsApp payments easier for Indian users, by enabling them to scan QR codes or use a token in the chat app.

These new updates were unveiled by WhatsApp at the Global FinTech Festival (GFF) 2021, which is its last day today. As for what they are, WhatsApp will now allow the use of the token in its chat maker.

The company says the brand will make it easier for people to send money to contacts or pay via WhatsApp, especially for native language users of the app in India.

In addition, the company has announced that the Camera icon in Composer now allows users to scan any QR code. QR codes will help pay for “more than 20 million stores in India,” WhatsApp said. WhatsApp says the release of these features has started in India and all users should get them soon.

WhatsApp, however, has the unique advantage of being the largest chat app in the world. So there will definitely be a huge increase in peer trade taking place in India.

While UPI payments may not have that benefit, the process is understandably similar to other applications such as Paytm and Google Pay.

With this, WhatsApp has been seen previously working on the refund feature of WhatsApp Payments users in India. It has been revealed that the app will soon offer refunds to users who make payments via WhatsApp Payments.

The report stated that this feature will issue a future update and will only apply to UPI payments.

Other such updates for dear users include the ability to add payment domains while sending money to friends from WhatsApp Payments.

The feature was released back in August and serves as the background for Google Pay payments.

Ongoing efforts are being made to compensate for the small opening of the Payments feature in India. It was first released to 20 million users in India in November 2020, but until the first quarter of this year, WhatsApp’s had only 0.02% of UPI and 0.01% of transactions in India, according to NPCI’s monthly data.

Although the negative numbers were blamed for the lack of marketing and integration that propelled India forward at the time. This approach has obviously changed now.

As Director of Payments, WhatsApp’s India – Manesh Mahatme says, “India’s 2 / 3rds are still in rural areas, and you will see the benefits of new digital products in the years to come.”

Apparently WhatsApp wants to be a great service provider in this area. With the huge and active user base we already have, as well as a consistent Push, it is likely to achieve its purpose in the coming months.
