WhatsApp introduces payment domains to let you customize money transfers with friends, family

WhatsApp on Tuesday unveiled Payments Backgrounds in India to improve transfer information on its platform. The new feature is intended to bring a customized payment experience for WhatsApp users.

Allows you to choose the right domain when sending money to your friends or family using WhatsApp Payments. The experience is live for Android and iPhone users across the country.

WhatsApp says the main idea with the Payments Background feature is to add something when users exchange money on the platform with their friends and family.

Initially, WhatsApp added a list of seven domains to choose from when you send money to your loved ones.

There are also a few domains based on the theme, including the one you can choose directly when sending money to your sister in Rakshabandhan (coming Sunday, August 22).

WhatsApp also adds domains that you can use to send payments for birthdays, holidays, and tours.

How to choose a payment background on WhatsApp
You can select a payment domain when making a new payment on WhatsApp by tapping the back icon on the ‘Send Payment’ screen.

Once you tap that icon, the app will show you a list of available domains at the bottom of your selection that match your payment theme.

You can also add a note to the back to explain the reason for your payment or to highlight your quote.

When you’re done, the recipient will be able to see the background and amount of the payment you made.

“With the origins of Payments, our mission is to bring joy to the daily payment via WhatsApp and enable our users to express themselves if they wish, through a variety of themes expressing celebrations, love, warmth or fun,” Manesh Mahatme, Director of WhatsApp Payments, said in a statement.

“We believe that sending and receiving money is more than just a transaction. Trade-related issues are often of little value. ”

WhatsApp launched its payment service after months of testing in November last year.

It started with five banking partners, although the list later reduced the list of partners to four banks – Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India (SBI) – as the service quietly removed the Jio Payments Bank list.

Currently, WhatsApp Payments based on Unified Payment Interface (UPI) enables transactions with more than 227 banks.

Although they have been on the market a few months ago, WhatsApp Payments has not yet been able to mark a major growth.

Its market share among other UPI-based applications has dropped from 0.16 percent to 0.014 percent, according to the latest data shared by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The service enabled 4.7 lakh transactions costing Rs. 45.33 bullets in July.

That being said, WhatsApp seems to be trying to attract users by adding the Payments Backgrounds feature. Other factors also appear to be in the process of gaining a certain market share over time.

“We look forward to creating more features and functionality and continue to make payments on WhatsApp more enjoyable and interactive,” Mahatme said.
