WhatsApp Fake Message Claim Free Internet Access From Government for three months, PIB flags as fraud

A fake WhatsApp message is still circulating that the government is providing free internet access to 100 million users for three months.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has denounced the message as fraudulent and confirmed that no such announcement was made by the government.

The message also contains a link that could be used for the purpose of misleading users and stealing their information.

Users are advised not to ignore such messages and to inform your contacts about the scam.

PIB posted the details via Twitter via a fake WhatsApp message on June 1, as well as a short video highlighting the content of the message.

This video shows that this message is falsely telling users that the government’s free online subscription is available to users of Jio, Airtel, and Vi (Vodafone Idea) until June 29th. asking for personal information about users.

Providing information on any of these websites may expose your information to risk.

The government also advises users not to open suspicious links such as those found in the message shown in the PIB video because that would allow fraudsters to seriously harm users.

This is not the first time a fake message has been circulated via WhatsApp.

In April, a message claiming to bring WhatsApp Pink spread over an instant messaging app that could allow attackers to access user data and access the phones of affected users.

PIB also just last week announced another fake message in which it was falsely claimed that WhatsApp would start showing red ticks to show government control over the app.

WhatsApp has features that include a ‘frequently’ labeled ‘label to prevent the spread of fake messages on its platform to some degree.

The Facebook-based company also provided tips on how its users can prevent the spread of rumors and false news.

However, apart from those measures, several users are often exploited by malicious players who spread false information.
