Vairamuthu said he did not want to place the judges in an uncomfortable position and therefore chose to return them.

On Twitter, he used the video and wrote with the caption, “I will return the #ONVaward medal.” He explained the reason for the decision, saying that he did not want to put the judges in an awkward position and that was why he chose to return it.

In the video, Vairamuthu says, “The ONV Cultural School has announced that this year I will be awarded the prestigious ONV Kurup. I was thrilled and grateful to receive this award. However, due to the intervention of a few jealous individuals, it was announced that the award would be re-examined.

I fear that this decision could bring me down with the ONV award. I don’t even want to put a panel of prominent judges in a difficult position. I would like to avoid getting this award amidst all the controversy. I would like to make one thing clear, very honest.

No one wants to test my integrity. In this case, I made a clear decision. I return the award to the ONV cultural center. I also request that the payment of Rs 3 lakh which was part of the prize be donated to the Kerala CM relief fund.

And to show my love and respect for the Malayalees, I will also donate Rs 2 lakh to the Kerala CM charity fund individually.

Let the brotherhood between Tamil and Malayalam flourish. I would also like to thank Tamil CM MK Stalin for congratulating me on the announcement of the award. ”

The ONV Literary Award was established in 2017 to commemorate the famous Malayalam poet and songwriter ONV Kurup.

Presented by the ONV Cultural Academy. Earlier, the school said in a statement, “At the request of the awards committee, the ONV Cultural Academy has decided to review the ONV Books award.”
