Tokyo Olympics 2020: Strict rules for Indian contingent

Tokyo 2020 Olympics: The Japanese government has imposed very strict rules on the Indian contingent participating in the Olympics, citing the corona virus. These rules will affect the preparation of the Indian team. The Indian Olympic Association called it discriminatory.
Olympic Games 2020: The Olympic Games will be held in Japan from July 23 to August 8. In the midst of the Corona virus epidemic, the Japanese government has imposed very strict rules on Indian players and staff. Indian players and staff participating in the Tokyo Olympics will be required to undergo a corona test every day one week before departure. Not only that, after reaching Tokyo, the Indian team will not be allowed to meet players from other countries for three days. The Indian Olympic Association has expressed its dissatisfaction with these strict rules of the Japanese government and called them discriminatory.

Apart from India, the Japanese government has imposed very strict rules on players and staff from 11 countries. Besides India, these 11 countries include countries where dangerous delta mutants of the corona virus have been found.

The IOA, however, criticized the Japanese government, saying the rules were unfair and discriminatory. The IOA wrote a letter to the International Olympic Committee asking them to ensure that the performance of the players is not adversely affected due to the strict rules.

Coronavirus cases have declined in India

After the second wave in India, Covid-19’s situation improved a lot. Every day the cases of infection have increased from four lakhs to 60,000 now. India was placed in Group I along with Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Group I countries have been advised that tests will need to be performed daily for seven days prior to departure for Japan.

Players and staff were also asked to stay in isolation for seven days before leaving for Japan. Even players and officials will not be allowed to interact with anyone other than their team for three days after arriving in Japan.

The IOA also questioned the need for these rules. All players in India have been vaccinated. The IOA said players and staff will be tested daily for a week before departure. The IOA says it’s not fair to discriminate against players for five days after reaching Japan because players have worked hard for five years to get here. Tokyo Olympics 2020….
