Shane Warne – Thai police on Saturday ruled out ‘foul play’ in the shock death of Australian cricket legend Shane Warne, who died of a suspected heart attack on Friday while vacationing with his friends on the island of Koh Samui.
Warne, 52, was found unresponsive when a friend of his came to wake him up to eat around 5 p.m. local time. Their frantic attempt to resurrect the Australian legend was futile after which he was taken to the Thai International Hospital where he was eventually pronounced dead.
“No foul play was suspected at the scene based on our investigation,” Thai police told AFP.
Fans paid their respects to Warne as Australia woke up to the shocking news by laying flowers on the statue outside the Melbourne cricket ground. And among those flowers were a can of beer, a pack of cigarettes, and a meat pie.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison hailed Warne as “one of our nation’s greatest figures” and announced he would receive a full state funeral.
“There was no one like Shane. He lived his life his way. He had his great accomplishments, but also his regrets. He carried them all the same. With a cheeky smile and a zest for life. There was something magical he brought to our summers.
The bleached blonde hair, the almost flippant way he moved to send out the delivery and his engagement with the crowd. He was one of a kind,” Morrison said. in a press release.
“He inspired so many girls and boys to try their hand at cricket. He made it all so easy. At some point in most Australian backyards we all tried to deliver a fin. Our love and our condolences go out to Shane’s family and especially his children Brooke, Jackson and Summer,” Morrison added.
