Tata Sky changes its name to Tata Play after 15 years, finally gaining Netflix support

Tata Sky has announced that it has changed its name to Tata Play after more than 15 years of existence.

The company, which claims to have millions of customers, believes its business now includes fiber-to-home broadband and Binge services rather than the Direct-To-Home (DTH) service.

The new term refers to the extended range of products and services offered by a company. Currently, Tata Sky has 23 million connections and 19 million active subscribers.

“Although we started as a DTH company, we are now fully transformed into a content distribution company.

As the needs of a small customer base were changing, and they were consuming content on OTT platforms, we wanted to build a platform and provide integrated experience.

Therefore, we introduced Binge. broadband business series, “Harit Nagpal, MD & CEO, Tata Play, told ET.

The company also revealed that it is adding support for Netflix, which will give its customers a lot of relief. Users now do not need to search for ways to watch Netflix as the popular OTT app will be available from tomorrow.

Currently, the service provides support for many video streaming applications such as Amazon Prime, Disney + Hotstar, Voot, and more.

Back in December 2021, the DTH operator launched the Tata Play Binge Combo packages, which included 12 OTT applications and in-line TV channels.

The company has now confirmed that it will also announce new Tata Play Netflix Combo packages on January 27.

In addition to this, the company will also provide free reconnection services to those who have a Tata Sky connection in their homes, but who have not been charged for a long time. It also eliminates the cost of visiting the Rs 175 service.
