Rakuten India increases employment, having 3,000 employees by 2023

Japan’s Rakuten conglomerate will double its Indian workforce to 3,000 by 2023, as the country becomes a key market for the production of products and services for its global programs, Rakuten India chief executive Sunil Gopinath.

The e-commerce giant has about 1,700 employees in India and 500 of them were hired last year.

“Rakuten is in all of India. The kind of technology, products and services we have brought to Rakuten global has been a great success for us, ”said Gopinath on September 15.

“Secondly, as we grow older, India is where Rakuten is more comfortable with hiring the next level of talent and quality.”

Gopinath was speaking to the day before the launch of SixthSense, a Software-as-a-Service product that gives businesses the ultimate visibility of the entire IT environment, from development to business operations.
The product is made at a company center in Bangalore. Rakuten is in talks with many businesses in fintech, e-commerce and product acceptance government.

According to Rakuten executives, a product market like SixthSense is worth $ 25-30 billion worldwide and is growing rapidly in India.

The company will compete with forums like Cisco’s AppDynamics in this space. The product is made up of a team of 300 science and AI data teams.
India has been a key market for the company, Gopinath said. Although he did not share funds from India, he said there were critical projects under construction in the country.

“All Rakuten Pay drawings, which are equal to the popularity of FonePe or Amazon Pay, were created entirely by the Indian team,” he said.

Many of the world’s most important brands and businesses – Rakuten TV, Rakuten Music and digital media products and the Rakuten App Store – were being made in India, he said.

“In Rakuten, we are building an NFT market. All of these were built by India. They all have high offerings and top line. So I can say that India has a big role to play, ”said Gopinath, referring to the unruly tokens.
Finding talent, however, remains a challenge and the company sees a drop in inflation.

“Many times now the permit comes to me, the salary is almost 100-200 percent more than what they are currently doing. So we end up making other specials like this but most of the time we stick to industry standards, ”said Rakuten India COO Naren Narayana.

His company has a data science platform to train talent in-house rather than hire over time.
