With a new version of Windows, possibly called Windows 11, scheduled for launch later this month, Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 will expire on October 14, 2025.
Microsoft has written the EOL (End of Life) for Windows 10 operating system for both Home and Pro versions through its website.
It means that the latest updated version of Windows 10 will cease to support updates and security as the company moves on to its new OS (applications).
When a company stops updating an operating system, called End of Life (EOL), it usually means that the operating system is actually dead, and users will be encouraged to move to a replacement.
At this point, Microsoft has not yet officially announced what the next generation of OS will be called, although it has been speculating that it is Windows 11.
Microsoft is holding a special event on June 24 where a possible official announcement will be made about Windows 10 follower.
The event will begin at 8:30 pm IST on June 24, 2021.
Microsoft has confirmed the news via its official Twitter handle.
At the Microsoft Build 2021 event, company manager Satya Nadella confirmed that the next generation of Windows updates will be the most important in decades.
Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella, during last month’s Build 2021 conference, said, “We will soon be sharing one of the most important updates to Windows over the past decade to open up great economic opportunities for developers and creators.
I was holding it for the past few months, and I am incredibly happy with the next generation of Windows. ”
Windows 11 is expected to undergo major UI adjustments. Microsoft has reportedly been operating in a new Windows store in recent months, and rumors have suggested that Microsoft will open its own store in all competing apps and payment platforms.
With Windows 10 retirement affected, it is likely that the Windows version could last longer than 2025 as people often take longer to upgrade from one Windows app to another.
Microsoft may give people more time to move to a new operating system.
