The Mamata Banerjee government has announced a full 14-day closure
Kolkata: In a bid to battle the deadly Coronavirus wave, West Bengal Govt has announced fresh restrictions till May 30 after the state recorded the highest single-day surge. The Mamata Banerjee government announced the complete lockdown for 14 days starting tomorrow.
What Will Open and What Will Be Closed:
- Industries and factories to remain shut.
- Inter-state trains, buses and metro services to remain shut.
- All gatherings, including religious gatherings, to be prohibited.
- Tea gardens to operate with 50% of workforce.
- Jute mills to operate with 30% of the workforce.
- Schools, colleges and all education facilities to remain shut
- Retail shops to remain open only till 7 am till 10 am.
- Sweets and meat shops allowed to remain open from 10 am to 5 pm.
- Medical shops and optical shops will remain open as usual.
- Private cars, taxis exempted from emergency essential services.
- Goods carrier to remain suspended except for medical and food services
- All political, entertainment, cultural, religious gathering prohibited.
- All industries and manufacturing units will remain closed except for food and medical supplies and medical packaging services.
- Parks and zoos will remain closed.
- Shopping complexes, malls, restaurants, salons, gyms, swimming pools will remain closed.
- Essential emergency services will be allowed to function.
West Bengal on Friday registered its highest one-day number of 20,846 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 10,94,802, the health department said in a statement.
The figure rose to 12,993 after another 136 people, including five prominent doctors, contracted the disease, the report said.
