Amrish Puri was born on June 22, 1932 in Jalandhar, Punjab. After graduating from BM College in Shimla, she decided to enter the world of theater. In the 1960s, Amrish Puri made a name for himself playing in the theater. He performed in plays written by Satyadev Dubey and Girish Karnad. Theatrical appearances led him to television commercials, from where he moved on to villainous roles in films.
Amrish Puri began his film career with Prem Pujari in 1971. His journey in the 1980s was quite memorable. Throughout this decade he made his mark in many great movies as a villain. He stunned everyone in 1987 with the role of Mogambo in the film Mr India by Shekhar Kapur. Amrish Puri’s dialogue “Mogambo Khush Hua” in this film became so popular that this dialogue made him a star overnight.
In the 1990s, he won hearts with his positive roles in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Ghayal and Virasat. Outside of Hindi, Amrish Puri has worked in Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films as well as Hollywood films. He starred in over 400 films throughout his career and left his indelible mark on the big screen.
