New Delhi: Google Chrome logo has undergone a design overhaul after eight years. Even though the changes are subtle, they can be spotted if you look closely. Instead of incorporating shadows on the borders between each color, Google essentially “lifts” them off the screen and the red, yellow, and green colors are just flat, according to a report in The Verge. And although not mentioned by Hu, the blue circle in the middle seems to be bigger and looks even more into your soul, but maybe that’s just my imagination.
The change incorporated for the first time since 2014 in the Google Chrome logo essentially enlarges the blue circle in the middle and the overall colors of the new Chrome logo are displayed. “Some of you may have noticed a new icon in Chrome’s Canary update today. Yes! We’re refreshing Chrome-branded icons for the first time in 8 years. New icons will soon start appear on your devices,” Elvin Hu, a Google Chrome designer recently tweeted from his handle @elvin_not_11, previewing the new Chrome logo.
From 2008 to today, the Chrome logo has gradually become simpler. What started as a shiny three-dimensional emblem has been crushed into a 2D symbol of modernity. Maybe one day I’ll get my wish and see that almost tangible Chrome 2008 logo gracing my desktop again. But not today, The Verge report added.
It should be noted that the revamped Google Chrome logo would look different on all systems. For example, to complement other system icons, the new Chrome logo would be more colorful on ChromeOS. The new Chrome logo, on the other hand, would have a small shadow on macOS. The new logo for Windows 10 and the Windows 11 version would have a more dramatic gradient, in line with other Windows icons.
