World Sparrow Day: Young volunteers campaigned at Lucknow’s Kudiaghat, distributed free earthern vessels and foodgrain packets for birds

The most common small bird, Sparrow, that we witnessed in our gardens few years ago has reached the verge of extinction at present. If not saved, it might happen that they would be seen only in the books just like Dodo and Mammoth. We all might have read the poem ‘चूं-चूं करती आई चिड़िया’ and now it’s the time to save that same little bird.

With the same views, the Global Green Foundation of Lucknow celebrated World Sparrow Day on March 20, 2021. The vounteers of Global Green Foundation in collaboration with SKY Foundation successfully conducted a Sparrow Conservation and Awareness campaign at Lucknow’s famous Kudiaghat. They distributed five hundred bird’s foodgrains (Cocoons, millet, rice, maize) packets and earthern vessels for birds to drink water. Along with this, the foundation also explained about the conservation and importance of sparrow to every visitor. The volunteers encouraged them to share this information among their acquaintances and provided hand bills related to the information about it.

The volunteers were guided by Swapnil Rastogi and Abhimanyu Verma, who extensively participate in Lucknow’s young environmental and social work programmes. Apart from this, Akshita Kaushik, Vatsal Srivastava, Dinesh Joshi, Shubham Sharma, Shubham Shrivastava, Hozaifa Shakeel and Utkarsh Mishra also actively participated in the campaign.

Volunteers provided free photographs to the people by taking cut-outs of save sparrow. After that, they gave free food grains (cocoons, millet, rice, maize) and earthen vessels for the birds to drink water. A signature campaign on Sparrow Conservation was also carried out by Swapnil Rastogi.

The program was held at Kudiyaghat from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. After that, the volunteers team of Global Green Foundation, Lucknow reached Junior High School and Primary School, Lajpat Nagar, Lucknow.

They awared almost 100 students about sparrow protection and conservation in presence of teachers who also actively participated in the campaign. They distributed the same food grains (cocoons, millet, rice, maize) and earthen vessels for the birds to drink water as well as information about sending a photograph of sparrow eating grains to mobile number-7348200000 of Global Green Foundation, Lucknow.

The selected photographs will be awarded certificates by the Global Green Foundation, Lucknow and will be honoured by the institution at the annual ceremony.

This program of Global Green Foundation, Lucknow is also registered on the official website of World Sparrow Day.
