Uttarakhand: Chief Minister Says, Work On Three Medical Colleges to Begin Soon

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Friday said the country’s government’s efforts were focused on strengthening basic infrastructure in all sectors. It includes health, and confirmed that work at three medical colleges would begin soon. Speaking to reporters as he had been living alone since March 22 after discovering he had COVID-19, Rawat said Uttarakhand was moving slowly in the path of progress. The government is focused on strengthening basic infrastructure in all sectors, including education, health and drinking water, he said.

The work to establish a medical college in Rudrapur, Haridwar and Pithoragarh will begin soon, the chief minister said. Describing the construction of better health facilities for people living in remote villages as a priority for the national government, he said a provision of 138 ambulances was provided under the ‘108’ emergency program. The recruitment process for 403 doctors and 2,600 nurses will also begin soon, Mr. Rawat said.

In addition to these professors, there will also be assistant professors and professors not close to medical colleges where there are vacancies, he said. Health facilities have been upgraded from the COVID-19 epidemic to regional level where health facilities are equipped with ICU respirators and beds, the Chief Minister said.

There are a number of ongoing measures to curb migration from the hills and the government is focused on improving tourism and travel, he said. Responsibility is being taken in all departments to change the effective migration strategy, Mr Rawat said. In the Kumbh Mela question, he said planning the Great Khumbh with God in Haridwar is the commitment of the national government. He is doing everything possible to make the event easier for all devotees and observers.

However, everyone attending the event will have to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Center, he added. When asked about his predecessor’s claim Trivendra Singh Rawat during his budget speech earlier this month that Gairsain would be taken to the third term after Garhwal and Kumaon, the chief minister said his government would make a decision based on what people wanted.

Regarding the recent suspension of engineers from the Department of Public Works (PWD) recently, he said no negligence on development issues would be tolerated. Two disabled engineers were suspended in the province recently when a road built by the department was damaged days after it was completed and its video was spread. “There is no chance of mistakes. Those who compromise on quality work or delay the implementation of a timely project will not be saved,” the Chief Minister said.
