Tripura Police have registered FIR against TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and 5 other leaders for obstructing them to perform their duty.

New Delhi: Tripura police registered FIR against TMC leaders Abhishek Banerjee and 5 other leaders for obstructing the performance of their duties.

The other main leaders who have been retained are Dola Sen, Bratya Basu, Kunal Ghosh, Subal Bhowmik, and Sri Prakash Das for allegedly misbehaving with Additional SP and SDPO Khowai and preventing them from fulfilling their duty.

Days earlier, Abhishek Banerjee and other TMC leaders were attacked in separate incidents in Tripura while visiting the state in an attempt to expand the Trinamool Congress ahead of the parliamentary elections in 2023.

Abhishek Banerjee called the attack on TMC executives “barbaric” and tweeted that “BJP Tripura is under Gunda Raj and has shown his true colors”.

After the attack, the West Bengal chief minister condemned the “violent incident” his nephew Banerjee and other TMC executives had to deal with and alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was responsible for the recent attacks on his nephew and TMC’s national secretary-general, Abhishek Banerjee, and other parties workers, and affirmed that she would not be intimidated by such acts.

“The BJP runs an anarchic government in Tripura, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and wherever they are in power. We condemn the attacks on Abhishek and our party activists in Tripura,” she said after meeting with injured workers from TMC to the SSKM public hospital as cited by PTI.

“Such attacks would not have been possible without the active support of the Union Minister of the Interior. He is at the origin of these attacks which were carried out in front of the police of Tripura because they remained silent spectators. Tripura’s chief minister does not have the audacity to order such attacks, “she added.
