Today’s assembly session was canceled due to a no-trust trust vote against Imran Khan.

On Sunday, Pakistan’s National Assembly was disbanded, and a much-anticipated trust vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan was postponed once more.

With Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government’s fate to be decided on Sunday, more than 100 members of the Opposition parties have signed a no-confidence motion against National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.

The opposition, which has accused Khan of economic mismanagement and foreign policy blunders, introduced a motion to remove the National Assembly Speaker.

“Surprise @AsadQaiserPTI @ImranKhanPTI 😊,” Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tweeted with the notice of resolution for the National Assembly Speaker’s removal.

Key Developments:

  • Security personnel have been stationed near Pakistan’s National Assembly in preparation for today’s no-confidence vote.
According to ANI, Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad.
  • According to Pakistani media, the federal government has fired Punjab Province Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar.
  • In the meantime, the acting Governor will be the deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
  • Prime Minister Khan will lead the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers in a crucial no-trust vote.
  • He had previously decided not to include PTI members in the proceedings against him in the Assembly.
However, after consulting with Khan’s confidants and legal experts, the decision was reversed.

  • According to Pakistan’s Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, nearly 140 PTI lawmakers attended Khan’s dinner on Saturday night, as reported by Dawn.

  • He revealed that the government had decided to hold a full-fledged debate in the National Assembly, adding that both Opposition and Treasury members would be given the opportunity to speak.

  • A day before the no-confidence vote, Khan called on his supporters to protest peacefully against what he called a “international conspiracy by the US to oust him.”
