Online scams have been on the rise ever since the coronavirus invaded the world. Security investigators have warned users about a new whatsapp delivery scam that is making rounds.
Fraudsters send malicious messages via WhatsApp informing users of their online orders. Innocent users fall into this scam and end up losing all the money saved by the bank.
If you are agile enough, you will never fall into such scams but the moment you bring down your guards without thinking, cheaters can benefit.
Russian security investigators at the Kaspersky lab have issued warnings about growing package delivery scams.
Investigators revealed that the attackers pretended to be bosses from companies that brought them online.
Then inform the person of the package that needs to be delivered to their place of residence. However, the process is not as smooth as it seems.
Cyber criminals then ask users to click on the link provided with the message to complete the process. They are asked to make a small payment to ensure the product is delivered safely to their place of residence.
“Unexpected parcels requiring payment by the recipient continued with the most common fraud in the last quarter.
The reason for the invoice from the ‘postal company’ could be anything from customs duties to shipping costs of losing money itself (which may be much higher than stated in the email) but also destroying bank card details, ”said the Kaspersky company.
When a user clicks on a link, they are taken to a fraudulent website via whatsapp when they are asked to enter their banking details in order to make that small amount.
This happens when the customer does not remember anything about their online orders.
If you buy something from Amazon or Flipkart, you know what to order and when the package will be delivered. That’s because you have a tracker in the app and you also get messages about product location.
No company will ever ask you to pay to ensure a secure delivery even if you choose to receive money in the form of service delivery.
The order will be delivered to you first and you can pay or simply pay before using your wallet or card. No additional charges will be levied no matter what happens.
Investigators have asked users to be aware of such emails and to constantly check the source of messages that do not appear to be very reliable.
You should never click on any link that does not have a valid or seemingly suspicious website address.
It is recommended to install security solutions to keep such threats, criminal attacks to steal sensitive information are not allowed.
