Tata IPL 2022: 15th Indian Premier League – VIVO TATA IPL 2022 is scheduled between 26 March 2022, and 29 May 2022. The opening match of Tata IPL 2022 is scheduled to be played on March 26, 2022, at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

BCCI has added 2 new teams ahead of the Tata IPL 2022 event. BCCI has successfully completed the bidding for two new franchises.

For the last couple of years, IPL i.e. Indian Premier League had been playing in UAE i.e. UAE due to the COVID-19 outbreak but the IPL 2022 should be played in India. Last year, only 8 teams played the IPL matches namely Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The two new ones that will be part of Indian Premier League 15 are Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

Tata IPL 2022 Schedule

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on March 26. As many as 10 teams will battle it out for the ultimate glory over the course of two months, with the final set to be played on May 29. With only just three weeks to go, the BCCI announced the schedule for the much-awaited tournament and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opener.

The BCCI has decided to switch to a different format for this year’s tournament. The new format will involve 10 teams being divided into two groups based on the number of titles they have won and the number of final appearances they have made.

TATA IPL 2022 Teams

A total of 10 teams are part of the IPL 2022. These are Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Gujarat Titans. Recently, all these teams picked their favorite players in the Tata IPL 2022 auction.

Before the auction, former teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squad. Additionally, the two new teams Lucknow and Gujarat were allowed to choose three draft players in their squads. So, after the conclusion of the auction, all 10 teams have now inducted the desired players into their teams.

Tata IPL 2022 Venue

Earlier, due to an increase in COVID cases in the country in January due to the third wave of coronavirus, BCCI planned to schedule the tournament outside India. Sri Lanka and South Africa were the possible options that BCCI was looking for. The last two editions of the IPL took place in the UAE.

However, since the COVID condition inside the country is now under control and there are only a few thousand active cases currently, BCCI plans to hold the tournament in India only. However, the tournament will not be held at different venues as it will entail risk due to air travel.

According to reports, BCCI is going to hold IPL 2022 in Maharashtra and Gujarat across 6 venues. 4 venues in Mumbai and 1 Pune could host the league matches while the four playoff matches include the final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, and Jio Stadium are the 4 possible venues in Mumbai where matches can be played. Jio Stadium, the home ground of the Mumbai Indians team, has yet to get permission from the broadcast team to host the matches. MCA Stadium in Pune is also one of the possible venues due to its proximity to the city of Mumbai.
