Chennai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches in six locations in Tamil Nadu to crack down on child sex abuse videos after the central agency received information about six state men who allegedly led a WhatsApp group ‘Sex Videos with Children Alone’.
In addition, the CBI has also brought defendants from 14 states and Union territories under the radar to tackle child sexual abuse online. The CBI has registered a total of 23 cases against 83 people under the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act and has identified more than 5,000 offenders globally in connection with sexual abuse racketeering on children.
According to a Times of India report, CBI researched districts of Tamil Nadu including Kattumaram Kuttai in Salem, Dokkuveeranpatti in Dindigul, Attur in Namakkal, Thorapadi in Tiruvannamalai, Bettathapuram in Coimbatore and Tiruvallur districts.
The CBI also filed an FIR against some of the accused of circulating, downloading, and storing child pornography material and messages from Tamil Nadu on November 14.
Besides Tamil Nadu, the CBI also carried out raids in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Haryana, and Chattisgarh.
Among those who are under the scanner, CBI also receives help from other agencies to track offenders from other foreign countries including Pakistan, the USA, Canada, Indonesia, UK, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, and Nigeria, according to a report from The Hindu.
Previously, the CBI had cracked down on a racket by a defendant in Goa with the denunciation received from Interpol. In July, the CBI investigation found that an accused in Goa had abused two dozen children to record pornographic content and distribute it to pedophiles on the Internet.
