Elon Musk is done with Tesla employees working from home and wants them to return to office soon. In a recent email to the staff, the billionaire said that work from home is no longer acceptable at Tesla.
Musk also said that employees who do not want to return to office can leave the organisation. “They should pretend to work somewhere else,” the Tesla CEO said, responding to a Twitter user who asked what about people who think working from office is an antiquated concept.
In the official email, written under the subject line, “remote work is no longer acceptable”, Musk noted, “anyone who wishes to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean minimum) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla.”
The billionaire further noted that the office “must be a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties, for example being responsible for Fremont factory human relations, but having your office be in another state.”
Now if you are wondering what kind of boss Elon Musk is, this is not the first time he is seemingly going tough on people who work under him.
A few weeks ago, the Silicon Valley venture capitalist and entrepreneur Keith Rabois narrated a story from Musk’s startup days through a series of tweets, which appeared to contrast with Musk’s care-free contrast on Twitter.
He revealed, once at Space Exploration Technologies Corp, Musk noticed a group of interns gathering while waiting in a line for coffee and threatened to fire them all.
Musk believed it was an affront to productivity. Rabois then highlighted that Musk later threatened to fire these interns if it happened again. The Tesla CEO later had security cameras installed in order to monitor compliance.
In April, at the time of evaluating the deal to buy Twitter, Rabois said that employees at Twitter, the company that always encouraged remote working environments, were “in for a rude awakening”.
Twitter employees are already worried about losing jobs once Musk takes over as Twitter boss in the months to come. It is believed that Musk will fire CEO Parag Agrawal and become interim CEO of Twitter.
