South Africa vs Bangladesh highlights, 1st Test, Day 1

South Africa vs Bangladesh- Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma made it half a century as a depleted South Africa got off to a promising start against Bangladesh (South Africa vs Bangladesh)in the first Test at Kingsmead.

With a number of star players in the IPL, the home side are significantly weakened for this two Test series, but captain Elgar remains committed to the Proteas cause.

He had the highest score with 67 from a team total of 233-4, before the waning light halted play early, after the start was delayed under wacky circumstances due to an electronic screen defective.

Elgar’s runs came in a first-wicket stand of 113 with Sarel Erwee, who made a useful 41 and quickly followed his skipper into the locker room.

Khaled Ahmed had Elgar taken behind the gauntlet by wicketkeeper Liton Das, when the left-handed pacemaker’s delivery abruptly climbed off the pitch, before Erwee shoved spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz into his stumps.

Mehidy struck again when he produced a sensational lineout to take out Keegan Petersen for 19, rushing to make a good point save before throwing the stumps at batsman’s end.

Ryan Rickelton fired Ebadot Hossain at Mominul Haque midway to go down for 21, before Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne saw off the home side until the end without further damage.

Bavuma finished the day on 53 steps, with Verreynne undefeated on 27 in a 53-point partnership.

The umpires ended the day’s proceedings after 76.5 overs, having perhaps wished they could do the same to an aiming screen early in the game as it did not go blank.

Ground staff rushed to cover the screen with white sheets to allow the game to begin, but the action was delayed and did not begin until more than 30 minutes after it was scheduled to start.

Cricket South Africa later apologized, citing a “technical glitch” as the problem.

Lots to prove for Proteas

The real challenge for South Africa is likely to come with the ball. They are on track to put together a decent total and hope their attack can confirm that, but they are without Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada.

A largely second-string attack will see this as a chance to shine and earn a future selection, but Bangladesh will sense an opportunity themselves, and after beating New Zealand recently in a test for the first time, they could sense a chance to put the hosts under pressure.

South Africa may be unbeaten in 12 Tests against Bangladesh (W10, D2) but they lost the recent ODI series between the sides and their recent Kingsmead record against all comers is poor in the five game days, with only one victory in their last nine.

Bavuma celebrates its 50th anniversary with fifty

This is Bavuma’s 50th Test match, and he marked it with an 18th half-century.

The 31-year-old has just a century of Testing under his belt, and it happened six years ago in Cape Town against England, so it would be fair to be cautious about his chances. hit triple digits here, but it looks like a good opportunity.
