Sidhu Moosewala murder: The Delhi High Court will hear gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s petition on Wednesday.

Sidhu Moosewala Murder: On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court will hear a petition from jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is suspected of being involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, alleging a fake encounter by the Punjab Police.

The petition asks the Tihar Jail authority and the Delhi Police to ensure that necessary safeguards, such as videography, are put in place for his safety before handing him over to any other state police, including the Punjab Police.

The petition has been scheduled for hearing before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma on Wednesday.

Bishnoi has approached the high court after a Delhi court refused to entertain his plea.

He was lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a case filed under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) and was remanded in the Delhi Police Special Cell’s custody for three days on Tuesday after being arrested in an Arms Act case.

Moosewala was killed by unidentified assailants on May 29 in Punjab’s Mansa district, a day after the state government reduced his security cover. The attack also injured his cousin and a friend who was riding in a jeep with him.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced the formation of a judicial commission led by a sitting high court judge to investigate the death of Moosewala, 28.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Sidhu Moosewala, was one of 424 people whose security was temporarily withdrawn or curtailed on May 28.

Bishnoi asked the high court in his petition, filed through advocate Vishal Chopra, for a directive to Central Tihar jail authorities to notify his lawyers before handing over his custody to any other state police on any production warrant.

He claims he witnessed a fake encounter by the Punjab Police as a result of political unrest between political parties in the province.

“Give a direction to the Delhi Police and Tihar Jail authority to ensure all necessary security arrangements for the petitioner as he shall be handcuffed, shackled, and videographed during the production warrant and on transit remand if any warrant produced by the Punjab Police for the safety of his life,” the petition said.

According to Punjab Police Chief V K Bhawra, there appeared to be an inter-gang rivalry between the Lawrence Bishnoi Group and the Lucky Patial Group.

Goldy Brar, a Canadian-based gangster, allegedly claimed responsibility for the May 29 murder, saying it was planned by him and the Lawrence Bishnoi group.
