New Delhi: The office of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted on Thursday that the sedition law will be invoked against those celebrating Pakistan’s victory in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup matches.
This tweet comes after UP police booked 7 people in 5 districts and arrested 4 people for allegedly waving Pro-Pak slogans or celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the T20 Cricket World Cup match which took place on October 24, ANI reported on Wednesday.
According to the statements, charges have been laid under several articles, including 504/506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 66 (F) of the Information Technology Act.
Uttar Pradesh police said seven people were jailed in five cases in Agra, Bareily, Badaun, and Sitapur districts for making comments against the country after the October 24 game. Among them, five were arrested, police said on their Twitter. manipulate.
Two more people were arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police, bringing the number of detainees to eight in the case of pro-Pakistan slogans launched by some people in the Samba district after the game, PTI reported.
Police in Jammu and Kashmir previously registered two cases under the Strict Illegal Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against some medical students living in hostels at Karan Nagar Government Medical College in Srinagar and SKIMS Soura. The action came after videos posted on social media showed students and others waving objectionable slogans and celebrating Pakistan’s victory in the high-tension matchup between traditional rivals.
A teacher at a private school in Udaipur, Rajasthan was arrested Wednesday on similar charges, according to PTI. Nafeesa Attari, a teacher who was fired by the principal of Neerja Modi School in Udaipur for displaying festive WhatsApp status, was arrested on Wednesday morning, SHO of Amba Mata Narpat Singh police station.
