Rudra -The Edge of Darkness Review

Rudra- Ajay Devgn becomes DCP Rudra Pratap Singh in the Mumbai Police Special Crimes Unit when, in the first episode of Rudra: The Age of Darkness, he tells his senior (Ashwini Kalsekar), “The whole system is on jumlas “. It goes on’, so there’s a fear that this thing could also apply to the series. Slowly, this fear begins to come true. Characters made from current formulas and jumlas are beginning to appear. First, in Rudra’s six-minute introduction, you understand that this capable officer is unfit for the system. He is suspended. An investigation is under way against him. Then comes such a case that the department finds no other solution than him. Then he comes back. Seeing the crime, he understands the whole affair. Now, there is only evidence left to collect against the criminal. You’ve seen all of this so much in all the detective series that you can pause to yawn.

Another thing that looks like a jumla in the sculpted figure of Rudra is his crumbling family life. For the past two and a half years, you’ve seen this more or less in all the crime web series. To kill the temper, the writer-director shows that the honest hero’s wife is having an affair with someone else. The writer-director got a head start in Rudra. Here, Rudra’s wife (Esha Deol) lives with a non-man without leaving him or divorcing him. So it’s a new idea. Inspired by the British series Luther, this Disney-Hotstar series in six episodes starts weakly. Knowingly, Rudra is unable to prove the crime of Aaliya (Rashi Khanna) who killed her parents and her pet dog, but in the upcoming episodes new criminals emerge and present new challenges to Rudra. Eh. These panes from Rudra of Criminals only make the series a little interesting to watch.

There is no doubt that Ajay Devgan is the left-right center of Rudra: The Age of Darkness. Despite this, to increase the importance of Ajay, criminal characters have been created here, which in particular gives challenges to the police. Now there is no one ahead of Ajay in the police department. That’s why he appears as a hero or superhero again and again in every episode. Spinning the pen in his fingers, he solves the problems in his mind by pinching it.

Overall, this is such a web series, which is for Ajay fans and they will enjoy it. But if you go to the texture-texture-story and characters of the series, then the thrill will be reduced. It means you don’t mind. Despite being a hero here, Ajay’s life picture is boring, dull and worn. Ajay doesn’t seem to be doing anything different according to OTT. It is embodied with its cinematographic image. In such a situation, it is clear that his intention on OTT is to lengthen the career lifeline more than to show new charisma on the new ground.

Why actors like Atul Kulkarni, Ashutosh Rana and Satyadeep Mishra are presented as second class ahead of Ajay is not hard to understand. On the other hand, why Esha Deol, who recalls her mother Hema Malini in the dialogue delivery, chose this web-series to make her comeback, she can open the mystery. Except for one Rashi Khanna, in the rest of the episodes, different actors keep coming and going to challenge Ajay by committing crimes. Rashi’s character definitely leaves a bit of an impact but after a while she stops adding something new to the thrill of the story.

The series was shot spending a lot of money. There is greatness in that. The camera work is good. But the weak writing, the looseness of the direction and the lack of rigor in the edition reduce its effect. A lot of bloodshed has been shown in the series. There is a story of such a painter, who kidnaps women and drinks their blood, makes a picture on canvas with their blood. So, beside the heroic rasa born from Ajay’s bravery, there is also a vile rasa in him. The polar-thriller more or less fits in a few stories and the entertainment graph in the series is not the same. It goes up and down quickly.

The darkness that has gone into Rudra’s catchphrase, emerges especially in the last two episodes. Rudra catches the criminal going deeper into the same darkness, but by taking the story’s twist in filmic style, he surprises him too. But the shocking scenes have been drawn for so long that the audience’s surprise ends. If you are not a fan of Ajay Devgan and fall in love with his every act, you cannot trust Rudra with Hundred Percent Entertainment with confidence.
