The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) cancelled Class 10 Board Examinations. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Every year, about 21.5 lakh students appear in the CBSE class 10 board exams. These students will now not have board exams. However, they will be promoted to the next class depending on the special criteria.
While the Board stated that this would be a “intentional” criteria.
Details of the exact criteria will not yet be released by the Board. However, Pokhriyal in a statement sent to ANI said that Grade 10 students will be passed on the basis of “internal assessment”.
The same pattern was followed last year. In the CBSE Board 2020 exams, most of the tests were held when the epidemic forced the Board to cancel the remaining exams. Students who have obtained three or more papers have been awarded marks according to the average of the highest marks obtained in any of the three subjects that have emerged. For students who appeared only two tests, the average of two high-scoring tests was considered when the marking couldn’t be done for the remaining subjects.
The results of these students was also calculated based on performance on internal or functional assessment or project-based assessment. Especially for those who have already appeared under two papers. The same pattern is expected to be followed now and considering that the board has considered practical tests.
“Anyone who is dissatisfied with the marks allocated to them for this reason will be given the opportunity to write the exams even when circumstances allow,” the Education Minister informed.
For Grade 12 students, tests will be held when the COVID-19 status will be under control. This, however, will lead to further delays in the already delayed education schedule. It is also expected to postpone the admission of students to institutions of higher education.
