In such a situation, with the easing of lockdown restrictions in many states, it was decided to reopen schools and other educational institutions. States like Haryana, Telangana and Gujarat have allowed offline physical classes in schools following strict Covid-19 protocols. Other states are considering the need for offline courses, citing the potential threat of a third wave of Covid-19.

Recently Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said: “There is every chance that the third wave of Covid-19 will wreak havoc, so we cannot risk children’s lives as long as the process of vaccination is not over for everyone. However, many states have announced the reopening of schools for upper grades in late July or August. Let’s take a look at the states that are going to reopen schools.

Punjab

On July 20, the Punjab government announced that schools in grade 10 to 12 would reopen in the state from July 26. During a Covid review meeting, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said schools had been allowed to reopen for grades 10 to 12. However, only fully vaccinated teachers and staff will be allowed to be physically present . Parental consent will be required for the attendance of students in schools. Meanwhile, the option of virtual classrooms will also continue.

Madhya Pradesh

As cases of Covid-19 have declined, the Madhya Pradesh government has also announced that schools in the state will reopen with 50% capacity from July 26 for grades 11 and 12. Schools in junior grades will be allowed to reopen gradually depending on the situation. At the same time, classes for each group of students will take place every other day. In this context, a group of students will attend classes on the first day and the second the next day.

Chattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh government decided on July 20 to reopen educational institutions from August 2. Classes 10 and 12 will start from August 2, while colleges will gradually reopen. Schools will be allowed to reopen with the consent of parents, village gram panchayats and city councilors.

West Bengal

A senior official said the West Bengal government has no plans to reopen schools soon because there is a threat of a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. An education department official said offline classes will begin first for students in upper grades once schools reopen. At the primary level, a decision will be made after assessing the situation. However, senior government officials will make a final decision on whether to reopen the schools.

Andhra Pradesh The state government began online classes on July 12, and physical classes will resume on August 16.

Odisha

The state government has decided to reopen schools for grades 10 and 12 from July 26, although it is not mandatory for students to take classes offline. Meanwhile, online teaching-learning will continue for students. Satyabrata Sahu, Principal Secretary, School and Mass Education, Odisha, said: “We have only been able to reach 40% of total students through online education, while 60% of students are left behind. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, students lost 150 regular teaching days from their school year. Therefore, as of July 26, private and public schools are reopened for students in grades 10 and 12. “Classes will run from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm There will be no half-holidays during this period.

Physical classes have been resumed for the upper classes in states like Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Bihar. However, during this period, schools were instructed to strictly follow the Covid-19 protocol.
