Punjab to have 4 interim congressional presidents amid a rift between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Sidhu: sources

A meeting is underway between Sonia Gandhi and Navjot Sidhu and a decision for Punjab Cong Chief is likely to be announced today or tomorrow.

New Delhi: Amid the continuing disagreement between the Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt Amarinder Singh, and Navjot Singh Sidhu, speculation is rife that the party will have 4 interim presidents for the state.

Navjot Singh Sidhu is now in Delhi and a meeting is underway with Sinoa Gandhi and Harish Rawat who had raised objections against Sidhu’s leadership in the Punjab Congress.

Sources said there would be more than 2 interim presidents of state parties in Punjab and the two names proposed by Capt Amarinder Singh are Santosh Choudhary and Vijay Singla.

Sources say the AICC is expected to announce the new Punjab party leader late in the evening or tomorrow. The formula was also given to appoint two chairmen to work with Sidhu. One will be a Dalit and the other a Hindu face. The Punjab has 57.69% Sikhs and 38.49% Hindus. Combining the two religions, the listed castes constitute 31.94 percent of the population. The final decision will only be made after Sidhu meets Sonia Gandhi.

However, top congressional leaders have yet to say anything about Sidhu’s appointment as the President of the Punjab Congress. Punjab Congressman Harish Rawat gave an appropriate answer to the question after meeting Sonia Gandhi on Thursday evening. In response to the question of whether it had been decided to appoint Sidhu as president, he said, “Who said… he would be… I said that a decision had to be made on this.

Capt Amarinder Singh is unhappy

Captain Amarinder Singh has already met Sonia Gandhi. So this is the last big meeting before the Punjab Congress ends the feud and names new faces, after which only orders will be issued. At the same time, the announcement of Sidhu’s appointment as president certainly increased the unrest in the captain’s camp. According to information received from sources, Captain Amarinder Singh is angry and unhappy that Sidhu may become president of the state.
