Offline classes suspended in BHU, students are asked to leave the hostels due to hike in COVID cases

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has suspended offline classes until further notice. University has postponed the Holi holidays that begin on March 23 and has asked students to leave the hostels. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar to review the teaching and learning environment, following the growing cases of Covid-19 hostels and BHU Hospital.

“Covid cases are rising daily and if the current situation continues it is likely that cases will increase significantly in future dams. Therefore, in order to get 50 students, they are encouraged to go to their homes and leave the hostels with their books and study aids,” BHU said in a statement.

Classes will be held online and the tests can also be done digitally, depending on the situation, University said. He said the situation would be reviewed in the first week of April and more plans would be announced after that.

However, the faculties have been asked to continue their activities and hold online classes.

Meanwhile, all schools in Uttar Pradesh have been closed until March 31 am among the growing cases of coronavirus in the province. “All schools up to the 8th class will remain closed from March 24 to March 31. All other educational institutions where the examinations do not start closing from March 25 to March 31,” the Uttar Pradesh government has announced.

Most universities and educational institutions are closed from the middle of March 2020. Colleges are allowed to open in a manner consistent with the standards between the strict monitoring of COVID.
