Noida International Airport: Priyanka Gandhi and Samajwadi Party Question PM Modi ahead of visit to Jewar

New Delhi: While the elections in Uttar Pradesh are only a few months away, political parties are sparing no effort to influence voters. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to inaugurate Asia’s largest “Noida International Airport” in Jewar today, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to Twitter and accused the BJP of acquiring land from farmers to build the fifth international airport in Uttar Pradesh, a polling place.

Congress Secretary-General Priyanka Gandhi called on Prime Minister Modi to compensate farmers whose land was acquired for Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar, and asked why they had no other choice than to live in tents.

Tagging a press article which claimed that some farmers lived in tents because they had not received plots elsewhere while others had not received compensation for the acquisition of land for the airport, Priyanka Gandhi asked why the farmers of Jewar had not been compensated for their land.

Why do farm families have no choice but to live in tents in this cold, she asked.

“Compensation is farmers’ right. Narendra Modi Ji, if your intentions regarding farmers are honest, then don’t let homeless farmers achieve your electoral ambitions,” Priyanka Gandhi said in a Hindi tweet.
Not only Congress, but leaders of the Samajwadi Party also shared posters related to Jewar Airport criticizing the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday removed posters relating to Jewar International Airport placed here in the city ahead of the prime minister’s visit to lay the foundation stone, PTI reported.

The posters carried photos of local leaders of the Samajwadi party asking the BJP government when it was going to sell the airport under construction. Police removed the posters – believed to have been placed the night before – and hired several people in the case.

“When will the BJP sell Jewar Noida International Airport?” Read the posters, as mentioned in the PTI report.

Akhilesh Yadav will arrive in 2022 and avoid the sale of the airport, they also said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today lay the foundation stone of Noida International Airport at Gautam Buddha Nagar.

The development of the first phase of the airport is being done at a cost of over ₹ 10,050 crores.

Noida International Airport covers over 1,300 hectares of land. The completed first phase of the airport will have a capacity to serve around 1.2 crores of passengers per year and the works are expected to be completed by 2024.
