Classes for Banaras Hindu University (BHU) students will continue online and the mid-year exams will be online, as the open book exams (OBE), the university decided at a recent meeting led by the Vice-Chancellor. The BHU on March 22 set up offline classes until further notice, given the growing number of COVID-19 cases in hostels and BHU hospitals. The university in March said the coronavirus status would be re-discovered in the first week of April and further decisions would be made.“Even-semester exams will be conducted online under the OBE method. The test pattern and other test conditions in OBE mode will remain the same… ”as the latest instructions issued by the BHU.
“COVID cases are on the rise every day … as classes are being organized online … tests will also be conducted in online OBE mode,” he added.
BHU has urged students to leave hostels and write exams “safely at home”.
“It would be in the interest of students to take their textbooks and study aids home,” the university said.
Speaking to parents and caregivers, BHU said “good governance and student care” would not be possible if the COVID-19 infection spread, due to “limited resources” at the university.
Offices, university departments will operate according to each schedule and faculty members have been asked to perform their duties as usual.
BHU said the status of COVID-19 on campus will be checked from time to time.
