Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday submitted his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat at Raj Bhavan. BJP will hold a legislative meet to choose the next CM of Gujarat.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janta party sent two Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Narendra Singh Tomar to Gujarat as central observers of the party to the meeting of state legislatures to be held in the afternoon today to decide who will be the next chief minister of Gujarat.

In an unexpected political development, Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani tendered his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat on Saturday at Raj Bhavan. After submitting his resignation, Rupani told reporters he was grateful to the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for giving him the opportunity to serve as CM of the state.

Ruppani dodged questions of sudden resignation, saying he had been chief minister for five years, which is a long time. He added that this was normal in the BJP. Rupani said he would continue his work under the leadership of the BJP national president, adding that people have continued to trust the BJP over the past five years.

With his resignation, Rupani is the fourth chief minister of a BJP-led state to be replaced in the past six months. Previously, Trivendra Singh Rawat and Tirath Singh Rawat in Uttarakhand and BS Yediyurappa in Karnataka have been replaced from CM positions.

Rupani (65) was sworn in as chief minister in December 2017.

There are many names circulating for the new chief minister of Gujarat, but according to ABP news, the top 4 candidates for the post of CM are:
