Mumbai: CNG, PNG Prices Hiked Once Again

Mumbai: In a last hike in three months, the state city gas company Mahanagar Gas raised the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by Rs 2 per kg in Mumbai from December 17 at midnight.

More than 8 lakh of consumers will be affected as a result of the increase, including more than 3 lakh of private car users in addition to those using public transport such as rickshaws, taxis and buses, the report notes.

What is the current price?

The tariff for piped natural gas (PNG) also increases by Rs 1.50 per unit. This is the fourth hike in the past three months. After the price revision, the tariff for CNG is now Rs 63.50 per kg while piped gas now costs Rs 38 per unit, according to the Times of India report.

This is the fourth time in the past three months that CNG prices have increased, the report adds. The CNG rate in the Mumbai metropolitan area has been increased by around Rs 16 in 11 months this year.

With the rise in CNG prices, the Kaali-Peeli taxi and autorickshaw unions are now demanding an increase of Rs 5 and Rs 2, respectively, in minimum fares, according to the report.

On December 4, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) raised CNG prices in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. With the rising gas price, the retail cost per kg of CNG in Delhi NCT stood at Rs 53.04.
