Doja Cat’s silky ‘Kiss Me More’, along with SZA, won the award for best collaboration. This is the fourth all-female collaboration to win Best Collaboration, after Beyoncé and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar” (2007), Lady Gaga feat. “Telephone” by Beyoncé (2010) and Lady Gaga with “Rain on Me” by Ariana Grande (2020).

Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” won the award for best R&B.

Foo Fighters was the first winner of the Global Icon Award, which VMAs imported from EMAs, the MTV European Music Awards. It’s a year of recognition for the veteran group, who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year.

Machine Gun Kelly won Best Alternative for the second year in a row. He won this year’s “My Ex’s Best Friend” award. He won last year for ‘Bloody Valentine’. MGK is the only second act to win back-to-back awards for Best Alternative. The first was Nirvana, who scored a hat-trick from 1992 to 1994 with “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “In Bloom” and “Heart-Shaped Box”. The category experienced a 20-year hiatus from 1999 to 2019, according to Billboard.com.
