Modi Govt To Tesla: Market of India and employment to China, this policy is not of Modi government, government’s answer to Tesla’s Elon Musk

Modi Govt To Tesla: The Modi government is not in a mood to give a concession to the American electric vehicles company Tesla. Minister of State in the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Krishpal Gurjar has said during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha that it may not happen that the market may be in India but job opportunities may arise in China. He told the House that no application has been received from Tesla for schemes under the policies of the government.

In fact, last year, Tesla’s Elon Musk had demanded the government to reduce import duty on electric vehicles. But the Ministry of Heavy Industries had said that the government would consider any tax exemption only after Tesla produces electrical vehicles in India. Krishna Pal Gurjar said that the government has brought PLI (Production Linked Incentives) scheme for automobiles and auto components and advanced chemistry cell batteries. This scheme is applicable to domestic as well as foreign companies.

Krishna Pal Gurjar was replying to a question from Congress MP K Suresh. K Suresh had asked whether the government would invite Tesla to enter the Indian market and what it was doing for the production of electric vehicles in the country. Krishna Pal Gurjar said that it cannot happen in Modi’s government that employment to China and market to India. It is the policy of the Modi government that if the market belongs to India, then the people of India will also get employment.

Krishnapal Gurjar was responding to queries related to the invitation from some states to Tesla and the tax exemption sought by the company. Last month, Elon Musk said that Tesla is taking all steps to launch its products in India.
