Maharashtra: No exam, direct promotion for Class 9 and 11th students

After announcing a mass promotion for Grade 1 to 8 students, the Maharashtra Department of Education has decided to promote students of 9th and 11th grade without holding final year examinations. Minister of State for Education Varsha Gaikwad had previously announced that he would promote students of class 1 to 8 without final exams. This is a one-time move taken as a result of the growing cases of the COVID-19 epidemic. However, 10th and 12th grade students will be appearing on board exams.

The category of students who will appear in the MSBHSE HSC and SSC exams also want to postpone even the cancellation of their exams amid growing COVID-19 cases. The board, however, has announced that it will hold tests on schedule and offline mode. As a relief to the students, the board has announced that it will hold special tests for those affected by COVID in June. Exact date for the same has not been announced.

In addition, the Maharashtra Board has also announced that it will vaccinate all staff in the exam profession and allow students to write exams in their schools. The Maharashtra Board will start on April 23 and April 29 for classes 10 and 12, respectively.
MSBSHSE will be conducting board tests in a reduced syllabus. The syllabus has been reduced by 25 percent in all subjects for classes 10 and 12.

About 30 lakh students from the Maharashtra Board HSC and SSC exams annually. Last year, 15.75 lakh tests appeared in the SSC exams and 14.13 appeared in the HSC tests. To pass the exams, students need to get a 35 percent mark on the board exams, according to the rules. Earlier, there were reports that the pass mark requirement had been reduced to 25 percent. However, the board denied any such changes. The Maharashtra Board exams are being held in April but due to the epidemic, the same has been delayed this year and in 2020.
