Magma Fincorp announces major change in management; Adar Poonawalla takes over as chairman

Mumbai-based non-banking company (NBFC), board of Magma Fincorp Limited on May 31 appointed Adar Poonawalla as chairman of the company.

Also, the company has announced a series of leadership changes following the Poonawalla-controlled Roona Sun Holdings receiving a stake of $ 3,456 million in May 2021.
Abhay Bhutada has taken over as executive director and Vijay Deshwal, a banker with more than two decades of experience, will take over as CEO at Magma Fincorp from the first week of July. He will also be the Group CEO of Poonawalla Group’s financial services business, the company said.

Deshwal is currently the head of business at ICICI Bank, which is responsible for the fast-growing services sector, including new businesses. He is also responsible for driving the company’s commitment to the bank’s environment, the company said.

These changes reflect the company’s transition to the next phase of growth and the continued commitment to achieving higher corporate governance standards, the company said.
The average sheet is strongly strengthened by inflation, and the capital adequacy of the Tier1 capital stands at 66.8 percent, and uses 1.3 times from May 15, 2021.

The company has created capital buffers and opted for strong policies to shut down compliance with the banking structure, it said.
“The company will add a team of leaders through the recruitment of qualified and experienced professionals from reputable financial institutions in various management positions, which will be held by Q2 FY22,” the company said.

With the second wave of COVID-19 declining, new managers are expected to drive business acceleration. The renaming of the company as Poonawalla Group continues. The company’s costs are expected to be in line with leading industries, as well as improvements that have led to credit ratings and progress in strengthening under the Poonawalla brand, the statement said.
