Leopard Caught on Camera: The people of Lucknow never imagined they would come face to face with a leopard in the crowded alleys of the state capital. However, for three days, several localities of the city vacillate under the fear of a prowling wild cat.
The wild animal was reported to have injured seven people and killed a stray dog in the town before being captured by forestry authorities. The leopard sighting prompted people to stay locked in their homes as the forestry department called on people to stay calm and keep young children and pets away from open spaces.
Since the leopard was first spotted, there has been considerable panic among locals. The situation has also given rise to many rumors. To catch the leopard, the forestry department and state police planted numerous traps and also stationed patrol teams across the city. The leopard even got caught in a net set up by the authorities but tore it up and escaped.
In recent years, numerous cases of wildlife have been sighted in residential areas. Experts blame the encroachment of forest areas for these incidents. This same year, a leopard was sighted near the Najafgarh area in Delhi and the Chandimandir Cantonment area in Haryana.
