Know the difference in CBSE, CISCE’s Approach to award marks to Class 10th students

Class 10 students studying at CBSE and CISCE can study in class 11 without clearing their board exams. Although the route taken by both national boards appears to be similar, there is little difference in the way they conduct the 10th board exams and the assessment process they follow to assess students who decide to move forward without appearing on the exams.

While CISCE will hold tests for all 10th and 12th grade students, it is up to the student to choose whether he or she wishes to appear in the exam or not. The result will be calculated based on a theory or special test, as selected by the 10th grade student. While there is no such option for 12th grade students yet but those attending CISCE-compliant schools in class 10 may opt out of the written tests.

For those who choose to opt out of the written exams, the results will be based on a special procedure. Once the results have been announced, students may not apply for re-examination or choose a special issue mark to see which option has given them the most marks. No later allowed switch for CISCE students.

CBSE, on the other hand, will now issue exam dates for only 12th graders. Grade 10 students will be awarded marks based on a special procedure determined by the CBSE board. Students who are unhappy with the marks they have been awarded according to the rules may apply for special tests. This is similar to the approach taken by the CBSE last year. The CBSE had a high pass rate of 91.46 percent on the Class 10 exams board. In 2019, it was recorded at 91.1 percent.

Difference between CBSE and CISCE exams:

Last year too, both CBSE and CISCE were required to cancel their mid-term exams and announce the results according to special terms. CBSE announced the results without holding all the tests. For those who came out of the three tests looked at the marks obtained in the two leading papers. For those who have appeared in one or two tests by 2020, the internal test will also be considered to mark students. This year, the Minister of Education announced that as no tests are being conducted, internal testing will be a test method, however, this may include many small points such as attendance, classroom performance, pre-boards etc. in detailed borders yet.

At CISCE, marks are awarded on the basis of three terms including the average marks for student headlines on board examinations, academic project and practical work, and marks obtained for the project and the performance task set out as a percentage. This year, as there are no theoretical tests, these procedures will be reviewed again. A new announcement of policies is expected to take effect soon.
