Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii has ‘Factual Errors,’ Says AIADMK leader. Wants the scenes to be deleted

Talking to media persons after watching Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Thalaivii’, Jayakumar said that the movie is a well crafted one

Kangana Ranaut’s star “Thalaivii”, billed as a biopic of the late Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa contains “factual errors,” AIADMK chief and former minister D. Jayakumar said on Friday.

Speaking to the media after watching the film, directed by AL Vijay and having Arvind Swami and Nasser in leading roles, at a theater in Chennai, Jayakumar said the film is well crafted with the exception of a few scenes on former Chief Minister and founder-leader AIADMK, the late MG Ramachandran, affectionately known as MGR, as well as Jayalalithaa.

Citing a scene in which MGR wanted to become a minister in the first DMK government led by CN Annadurai and it was later chief minister Mr. Karunanidhi who blocked him, Jayakumar said MGR never sought a post.

He said Annadurai wanted MGR to be appointed minister, but he himself refused and was later appointed deputy head of the Small Savings Department, which was a new post. Jayakumar said that after Annadurai passed away in 1969, it was MGR who suggested Karunanidhi’s name for the post of the chief minister.

MGR and Karunanidhi then separated in 1972, the first announcing the formation of AIADMK.

Jayakumar also said there were scenes showing Jayalalithaa developing contact with Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi unbeknownst to MGR, and said this was untrue and that she never opposed her leader.

He said there were also scenes where MGR was seen belittling Jaya, which was not true either.

The senior AIADMK official said that if these scenes were removed from the film it would become a super hit, adding that he became nostalgic while watching the film.
