Israeli flag march in Jerusalem to rekindle tension: Hamas

Gaza: The Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas has said that organizing an Israeli flag march in East Jerusalem on Tuesday will spark another wave of tension.

Hamas spokesman in Gaza Abdulatif al-Qanu‘a said in a statement that the organization of “the so-called flag march is only a detonator for the outbreak of a new battle in Palestine, “reports the Xinhua news agency.

“The so-called flag march which is to be organized by the settlers in the streets of Jerusalem will lead to a new battle to defend the holy city and the al-Aqsa mosque,” he said.

Ahmad al-Mudalal, a top Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza, said if the settlers’ flag march entered the Islamic quarter of Jerusalem on Tuesday, “it would lead to a state of rage and uprising throughout the territories. Palestinians ”.

According to organizers, the march will begin on HaNevi’im Street on Tuesday and head towards the Damascus Gate, The Times of Israel reported.

Participants will not enter through this entrance to the Old City, but will instead proceed to the Jaffa Gate, organizers said in a statement.

Participants will then walk from the Jaffa Gate to the Western Wall passing through the Old City, they added.

The annual event brings together thousands of Jews who pass through predominantly Muslim neighborhoods in Jerusalem towards the Western Wall, in a demonstration of sovereignty to mark the Hebrew anniversary of Israel’s capture of the city’s eastern part during the war of the Six Days of 1967.
