IPhones may come with a USB Type C port starting with the iPhone 15 next year

Most Android smartphone manufacturers almost discard the Micro USB and plug in the USB Type C port to charge and transfer data. A new report now suggests that Apple is also moving that way.

Like analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the tech giant will launch the iPhone with USB Type C next year.

As in previous reports, the technology giant in Cupertino was due to dump the lightning port this year with the iPhone 14 series, but a new report raises a different issue.

Kuo now says that according to his research, Apple will switch to USB Type C for iPhones in the second half of 2023, when the iPhone 15 is expected to be released.

Kuo highlights that the switch will help iPhones bring faster charging speeds and data transfer rates. The analyst, however, believes that the final details will depend entirely on iOS support for the standard charging port.

The report and Apple’s decision to discard the lightning port comes just days after the EU passed a law requiring all manufacturers to use USB Type C charging ports on all phones.

Most Android phone manufacturers are already switching to Type C port, making Apple the last to join the race. With iPhones moving to USB Type C port it will facilitate data transfer between iPhones and Android phones.

It will make it easier for users, as they will be able to charge all their phones without spending extra money on getting an iPhone cable.

The iPhone 14 is coming soon

Apple is currently working on an iPhone 14 series, which can include 4 models in total. These variants may be the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is expected to replace the iPhone 13 mini model, which reportedly influenced the sale of the iPhone SE (2022). So, there will be no mini this year.

The technology company usually unveiled its flagship iPhone models in September and the same can be followed this year as well.

Other reports, however, suggest that there may be some delay in the establishment due to restrictions and closures in China during the rise of COVID cases in the country.
