India vs Nepal- The Indian men’s soccer team returns to international action for the first time since June, when they face Nepal in two international friendlies on September 2-5 at Dasharath Stadium in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu. The Blue Panthers, after a two-week pre-camp in Calcutta, landed with a 25-member Indian soccer team in Kathmandu on Monday. This will be the team’s first visit to the Himalayan nation since 2015, when the two had made the qualifying rounds for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, the two international friendlies will serve as preparation for both sides. The two national teams will be at loggerheads at the next South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) championship, which is scheduled to begin in October this year. The 2021 edition of the SAFF Championship will also feature lock horns from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives for the coveted trophy.
Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri will lead the attack with Manvir Singh and Farukh Choudhary while Gurpreet Singh Sandhu will be the sniper. The squad will also have new faces in the form of striker Rahim Ali and defender Seriton Fernandes.
Among those absent, veteran defender Sandesh Jhingan will be absent from the squad due to injury. While the midfield trio of Rowllin Borges, Udanta Singh and Ashique Kuruniyan were left out.
