Google makes weekly Covid-19 tests mandatory for employees entering U.S. offices. Google employees will only be allowed to enter office premises if they are found to be free of Covid-19.
As well as testing for non-complications, staff will also be required to wear a surgical grade mask in offices. Google had postponed the return to office during the Omicron trial. The company also announced stern action against employees who failed to comply with Covid-19 guidelines.
Google has said it uses short-term lifestyle measures to curb the spread of Covid. “To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 during this time of high risk, we are implementing new temporary health and safety measures for anyone accessing our US sites,” said a Google spokesman.
The company also revealed that it offers free home screening and testing options to its employees, dependents and family members.
Earlier, Google delayed its return to office and issued a stern warning to unprotected Google employees. The giant said workers would lose money and would eventually be fired from the company if they were not vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus.
The company has reportedly issued an invitation to employees to warn them of the consequences if they do not receive the vaccine.
In a letter to its employees received by CNBC, Google had asked its employees to submit vaccination details on December 3.
Employees were also given the opportunity to apply for medical or religious exemption on December 3. The memorandum said that after the deadline, employees failed to submit any documents about their vaccination status will be contacted in person by the company.
Employees whose company applications have not been approved by the company will also be excluded.
Google memo said employees who failed to comply with vaccination rules on Jan 18 would be placed on “paid administration leave” for 30 days.
Posts, they will be placed on “private unpaid leave” for six months. If they do not get the vaccine even then, they will be asked to leave the company.
