GATE 2022 Exam Survey: 91% of aspirants want the exam to be postponed

GATE 2022 Exam Survey: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, GATE exam has become a hot topic in recent days. Since the issue was trending on social media, we decided to survey to get a better understanding.

Survey results related to the postponement of GATE 2022 suggest that almost 91% of students want the exam to be postponed. The main reason is straightforward, that the third wave of COVID-19 is a big risk and therefore the review should take place at a later date. Read on for the full results.

Reporter GATE 2022: Survey Observations

To understand the subject of ‘#Postponegate2022’, Times Now surveyed on January 18, 2022. It was in the form of a poll and the question was – Should GATE 2022 be postponed? Over 20,000 respondents chose from 3 options and voted. The results are as follows:

Of those 20,000 people, almost 91% have chosen option 1 and want the exam to be postponed. They think the likely third wave of COVID is a risk and the review should take place once it subsides.

Around 6.6% of respondents wanted GATE 2022 not to be postponed. The exact reasons are not known, but they want the review to go on schedule.

The third option, “only fully vaccinated students are allowed to take the exam”, was chosen by only 2.1% of respondents.

With this survey, the conclusion is clear that Postpone GATE 2022 is the primary demand from aspirants. Till now, IIT Kharagpur has not given made any official communication on this. The exam dates continue to remain unchanged and it will be held on February 5, 6, 12 and 13, 2022. Stay tuned here and on gate.iitkgp.ac.in for latest updates on the exam.

Statement mentioned in the online petition

The online petition says: “If the exam dates are not postponed, candidates who come forward for GATE 2022 will run the risk of getting infected and spreading it. As such, it will be a threat to our lives. as well as that of our family members.” This online petition has been signed by over 23,000 candidates.

The petition also adds, “With the current third wave of Covid-19, due to its new variant, Omicron has severely spread to several states and cities. Several studies, including one by IIT Kanpur, predict that Wave 3’s peak is expected in early February and the wave will end in April, so the peak will most likely coincide with GATE’s regular review dates.

IIT Kharagpur response to online petition

IIT Kharagpur has not yet responded to this issue. Prior to this, IIT Kharagpur did not release the admission cards and postponed the release twice. Regarding this, IIT Kharagpur said that they are reviewing the situation across the country before issuing the admission cards. However, they released the GATE 2022 admission cards.
