Speaking to the nation on June 7, the prime minister said the Center would take full responsibility for purchasing coronavirus vaccines for states.

Prime Minister Modi announced the abandonment of the decentralized policy deployed on May 1 and said that the Center will take care of purchasing 75% of Covid-19 vaccines from manufacturers and then provide them free of charge to states for inoculation .

He said states will be notified of the number of doses they will receive a week before supply.

“There shouldn’t be any differences and debates about vaccines,” he added.

Here are the details of the free vaccination campaign:

All citizens over the age of 18 can get vaccinated for free at government facilities starting June 21.


All vaccination centers, government and private, would provide on-site registration facilities for individuals and groups.


People do not need to pre-register on the Cowin or Aarogya Setu app.


States can take advantage of the facilities of common service centers and call centers to help people book vaccine slots.
The Center will purchase 75 percent of total vaccine production from vaccine manufacturers and deliver them free to state governments.


The Center will also assume responsibility for 25 percent of immunization-related work with states.
