Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) remain buyers in Indian markets until September by investing a total of Rs 16,305 crore.

According to deposit data, overseas investors have invested $ 11,287 million in equities and Rs 5,018 crore in total debt over September 1-17.
At the moment, the total investment amount stands at Rs 16,305 crore.
In August, FPI investment stood at Rs 16,459 crore.

Himanshu Srivastava, co-director of research, Morningstar India noted that investment in Indian currency has been volatile for some time.

“However, continuing the meeting in the Indian stock market would have been difficult for FPIs to ignore and they would have preferred to be a part of it rather than lose it,” he said.
Also, India continues to be an important and competitive destination for long-term investment, adds Srivastava.

FPIs have been showing interest in categories such as hotels and travel since these sections started performing well, according to V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

He also said that some profit bookings are reflected in categories such as steel and insurance which were very popular.
Shrikant Chouhan, vice president of seniority, research technology equity at Kotak Securities, said all emerging markets have seen the entry of FPI in Sep 2021 so far.

“Revenue in Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines is estimated at $ 2,597 million, $ 535 million, $ 290 million, $ 162 million and $ 71 million,” he added.

Chouhan said FPI’s entry into the Indian financial markets could be reduced following a reduction in power by the Federal Reserve.

“Typically, price increases by the US Federal Reserve lead to FPIs emerging from emerging markets like India which are considered more dangerous than developed economies,” he said.
