Eyewitness Sonu Mahal-Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar and his partner Ajay were sentenced to 14 days in judicial detention last week after the two-time Olympic medalist was taken into custody after being arrested in connection with the murder of 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Rana in Delhi.
While a struggle for ownership was established early in the investigation, it emerged that the feud between Sushil and Sagar was not just about ownership.
Notably, the police have yet to find the real motive for Sagar Rana’s murder, but according to Sonu Mahal, who is the key witness in the case and was the friend of the deceased, Sushil wanted to teach Sagar a lesson, who defied the decorated wrestler’s hold at the Chhatrasal stadium.
In an exclusive interview with Zee News, Sonu recounted the entire incident, which took place on May 5 and led to the murder of Sagar Rana.
“Me and Sagar were sitting in our rented room when 30-40 people, who were with Sushil, came to our room and took us downstairs at gunpoint and forced us to sit in a car, in which Sushil was already present, “Sonu mentioned.
“Then they took us to the Chhatrasal stadium and as soon as we got out of the car at 11:30 pm they started beating us. The group of 30 to 40 people was also made up of wrestlers and henchmen. Even some members of Neeraj Bawana Gang and Asoda Gang were also part of the group and some of them also fired shots to scare us, “he added.

According to Sonu, Sushil was jealous of Sagar as he was a promising aspiring wrestler and had already made a name for himself among the young wrestlers at Chhatrasal Stadium. The issues between the two wrestlers escalated when in 2020 Sagar managed to secure a different arena to train in the approach stadium and around 40 Sushil followers also left with Sagar to train with him at because of which Sushil felt insulted and wanted to take. revenge of the young wrestler.
“We had left Sushil’s wife’s apartment a long time ago, so that wasn’t the reason for the fight,” Sonu said.
“Sushil has always been involved in hooliganism and vandalism. He is even in contact with many gangsters, including Bhatti and Lawrence Bishroi. Sushil was even friends with Kala Jethari, who is my cousin brother, ”the eyewitness said.
According to Eyewitness Sonu Mahal, Bhura, who is a close associate of Sushil Kumar, drove the wrestler to the Haridwar ashram after Sagar’s murder.
