New Delhi: The custody of Sharafat Sheikh, known as Delhi’s largest and notorious drug mafia, has been extended for one year. This measure was taken by the Central Advisory Council after obtaining the approval of the 1988 Law on Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS Law).

This is Delhi’s first police case under the PITNDPS law. In fact, the Delhi Police Narcotics Unit recommended a one-year extension of Sharafat Sheikh’s custody, which was approved by the Central Advisory Board. The Delhi Police Narcotics Unit considers it a great success.

What’s going on

DCP Chinmoy Biswal says Sharafat Sheikh is a notorious drug dealer. Under the PITNDPS Act, the Narcotics Unit of the Crime Directorate of Delhi Police had sent a proposal to the PITNDPS Division of the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Finance, to curb trafficking related activities drug. The co-secretary of the relevant department issued the order for Sharafat Sheikh. The Central Advisory Council, formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, upheld the order at a hearing on June 1. After that, Sharafat Sheikh’s custody was extended for one year.

What is the PITNDPS law

The smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances poses a threat to the health, well-being and economy of the people of the country. The PITNDPS law aims to prevent this drug trafficking, which is an additional weapon with the investigative agencies of the country. The main objective of which is to prevent organized drug trafficking. At the same time, action must be taken against the pillars of drug trafficking. Under this law, there is a provision allowing for the pre-trial detention for one year of those accused professionals or criminals involved in the illegal drug smuggling trade.

In the drug business since 1986

Drug smuggler- According to Delhi police, Sharafat Sheikh has been involved in drug trafficking since 1986. He has 36 criminal cases registered against him including 5 NDPS law cases. Sharafat Sheikh, who studied up to 5th grade, worked in a dhaba in Ghaziabad in 1977. After which he started working in a store in Meena Bazar, Delhi. In 1986 he was arrested by Delhi Police in a case registered under Article 324/325 IPC. While in prison he befriended a drug dealer named Inayat and since then he has been involved in drug trafficking. Sharafat Sheikh has become a notorious name in Delhi-RCN.
